Elmo receives COVID-19 vaccine in PSA with Sesame Street, CDC

3 year-old Elmo got a COVID-19 vaccine but some aren't happy with the message it sends. Senator Ted Cruz criticized it for "aggressively" advocating.

BRIDGEWATER The Somerset County Department of Health will offer free COVID-19 vaccinations for children on five Thursdays in July and August at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School.

The clinics are only for children aged six months to 5 years.

The clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 14 and 21 and August 4, 11 and 25 at the school on Vogt Drive.

Appointments are not required, but parents can speed the vaccination process by downloading a Moderna registration form or a Pfizer registration form and filling it out prior to arrival.

Children must be Somerset County residents and have the consent of a parent or legal guardian who must be present during vaccination. The schedule of additional doses is slightly different for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna pediatric vaccines, and providers at the clinic will work with parents to ensure a complete and effective vaccination schedule.

"Any parent who has taken an extremely young child to get their shots knows how important it is to have atmosphere, a parent or guardian to provide comfort, and a highly skilled professional staff, County Commissioner Doug Singleterry, liaison to the Somerset County Department of Health, said in a statement. Fortunately the VoTech agreed to partner with our amazing health department to create a separate, safe space to provide this life-saving vaccine for our younger residents.

The county has scheduled a vaccination clinic for residents 5 and above at 4 to 7:30 p.m. July 20 at the Senior Wellness Center, 876 E. Main St. Appointments are not necessary, and registration will occur on site.
